DIAMONDS AND OTHER PRECIOUS GEMS

The four most prized and precious gemstones are Sapphires, Rubies, Emeralds and of course Diamonds!  Sapphires are a brilliant blue, Rubies a deep red, Emeralds a gorgeous green and Diamonds a sparkling white and are the most valuable.  Diamonds are the hardiest naturally occurring material known to man and of course is reputed to be “A girl’s best friend”.  Diamonds are graded and priced according to the four C’s, Colour, Cut, Clarity and Carat, the cut is the primary determinate of value. The quality of a stone is decided by it’s cut, diamonds should sparkle and when cut properly you will see all the colours of the rainbow.  Some of the other well-known gemstones are; Opal, Topaz, Tanzanite, Onyx, Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst and Cubic Zirconia.  There are several ways to describe gemstones, such as a precious jewel, a gem, a precious stone or a semi-precious stone.  These descriptions are all different but mean the same thing, a piece of mineral crystal which when in a cut and polished form can be used to make jewellery. The list of different types of jewellery that can be made from all of these stones is huge and includes, earrings, necklaces, brooches, tiaras, cufflinks, tie-clips, body jewellery and of course rings.  Promise rings, Eternity rings, Engagement rings and more often than not used in Wedding rings.
